Top 10 Xbox 360 split-screen games that hold up great in 2018

Whilst everyone else is left fighting over the new shiz, here you are reclining into some old classics that cost less than a grilled panini.

By playing each and every game extensively, the mule (and friends) have compiled a list you can trust. And trust it you can; hundreds if not thousands of worms have been blown up in the construction of this very list, not to mention all the trashed go-karts and worn out 9 irons.

Games that didn’t make it into the list because they were too similar to current entries, just pipped to the post or didn’t make it in for some other amazing reason.

Before we get into the meat and potatoes lets take a quick look at our honourable mentions – the games that didn’t make it in because they were too similar to current entries, just pipped to the post or didn’t make it in for some reason or other.

It’s a classic in the same league as all the greats and has been around nearly as long as time itself. What we have on offer here is a ‘best of’ album, a real classic giving us hits such as; The Concrete Donkey, and the Holy Hand Grenade. A true blast to play and testimony to the fact that this game has been around for nearly 25 years.

9. Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed

Award: Best Looking On A Budget Projector

Up to 4 players

Let’s face it Mario Kart has held the karting trombone since 1992 since – but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s always been the champ. This young whippersnapper throws you headfirst into the action and has the huge allure of being 100% 4 player split-screen enabled. The graphics hold up excellently on even the cheapest projector to boot.

8. Halo Reach

Award: Most Heroics

Up to 4 players. 2 Players Co-op

Active online players
If Halos had a high point then it’d be Halo 3, the sheer quality of gameplay and pioneering features made for some of the best online multiplayer moments ever to grace the humble 360. What we’re looking for here, however, is split-screen greatness, and that’s where Reach comes in; providing us with one hell of a campaign, easily powerful enough to muscle it’s way to the top of the Halo series and claim this number eight spot on our list.

7. Borderlands 2

Award: Best For Magpies

If you enjoy opening up your amazon packaging – then you’re in for a treat, you will be doing a lot of that here. Fight an enemy. Collect. Move to a new area. Collect. Talk to a fat lady (Ellie). Collect. It’s brilliant and comes together as a wonderful open world escapade which can support 4 players, which is insane for a game of this scale.

6. Lego: Everything

Award: Most Heart Warming

Up to 2 players

Lego games have long held sway in the split-screen market, and there’s a good reason for that. They’re good, really good. Production and storytelling are the cornerstones of these games, and it really shows; top-notch voice acting, environments and cutscenes that you never want to skip. It does, however, feel like it should support four players, we can always dream…

5. Golf: Tee It Up!

Award: Most Well Maintained Greens

Up to 4 players

A bit of a wildcard entry here. How can a floppy golfing arcade game knock a bunch of high calibre contenders out the way?! Because it’s pure class, simple gameplay that anyone can pick up in a minute and yet has a strong degree of mastery (that doesn’t take 500hrs of gameplay to accrue). Re-create your very own living room lynx, sit back, recline and watch your mates shot bounce wildly off a rock and settle excruciatingly behind a palm tree.

Available on the Xbox Marketplace.

4. Blur

Award: Best All-Round Racer

Up to 4 players
Active online players
Surely the best split-screen racing game about, expertly mixing the thrill of an arcade racing game with the fine-pointeries of a far more mature one. And the only game on our list that lets you blast down both Camden AND Brighton high streets.

3. Portal 2

Award: Highest Pain/Reward Ratio

Up to 2 players

If you don’t like puzzles then skip right through to our number two offering. This one will give you migraines. But quite possibly the most sleek and enjoyable migraines you’ll ever experience; because what awaits you is splitscreen fulfillment on a whole new level.
Like a few of our games listed here, it’s held it’s value staunchly over the years, which tell you something about it’s pedigree.
